Members of Congress can provide assistance to constituents who are applying for government benefits. Your senators or representative may be able to help with:
Tracking a misdirected benefits payment
Filling out a government form
Applying for Social Security, veterans', education and other federal benefits
In some cases, your senators or representative may be able to help expedite a Social Security disability claim. Your elected official can open a congressional inquiry into the status of your claim and it may result in your application being processed sooner.
Good luck.
I was denied about 4 months after filing. I retained an attorney to file an appeal of the ruling. He says i have about 40% chance of winning and it will take about 18 months to get a hearing. If I win I get back payments from the date of initial filing. The attorney gets 25% of that lump up to 6000. If I lose he and I get nothing.
Thank you!!!
Advised me to get medical and financial power of attorney for each of us. Make sure your name is on everything too.
Thank you so much for your information. I also wonder what will happen to me if and when he loses his job. I will not any medical coverage and hope I'll be able to afford it. Has the attorney advised you to put the house, bank acct., ect....in your name?
My husband has atypical Parkinson's or Lewy body disease (dimentia). My husband retired at 55 he's now 60. Your husband will file through ss disability. I think sometimes it takes about a year to receive benefits and it's based on how much he's paid into ss. My husband got his quickly because his was so bad. Also ss person asked he could do yard work. He said no, ss person said he would not have gotten benefit if he said yes. Sheryl Herndon is a local lawyer and friend who was very helpful to us. Call her and ask about if your husband could lose his job. If you don't speak with her pass the message to her assistant. I think she would give you a lot of info. Hope your husband has a slow progression of this terrible disease😏 Hope this helps!
