First of all,I think there should be a clear, a well established Medical Guidelines or Chart made by Mouvement Disorder Specialists that could be distributed to GP's and other specialists to better detect the early signs of PD.Most importantly,I think those guidelines could raise concerns or teach regular doctors that Pd doesn't only "affect old people " so they could be more open more aware when they see a young or and old person with neurological symptoms entering their office.I think this… read more

Hi @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member. Dear sweet manon. I agree with everything you say about parkinson's. That the general public needs to be educated is something that all PDers of any age know.
The public is probably more uneducated about YOPDers than us older folks with PD. And if you have PD, no matter what age you are, you still have PD. If the public needs to be educated about PD they can't separate the YOPDers and educate themselves about them without dragging us all into the mix. Like I said before, PD is PD. So we educate people about PD in general, nomatter your age. In my opinion, those with YOPD are a very rare breed and more than likely coming from a totally different source when contracting Parkinson's… But we don't know that for sure. But in my opinion there are still a lot of things left to find out about Parkinson's in general… Things that even the specialists don't know about yet. My point is we are all uneducated about Parkinson's. Therefore, we can't educate anybody else about it until we first understand it ourselves. You've heard this many times… We're all different. Parkinson's will affect each of us differently, but the end result is still the same....we have PD, which at this point has no cure. God bless you. Sterling
Hi, I agree with you. It was a Physio that detected that my symptoms were more than what she was treating me for and suggested that I see a neurologist. After I was diagnosed by neurologist by GP was very surprised. So I was very lucky that the physio picked a neurological problem. Cheers Lyn
You know what else needs to be standardized - recommending physical therapy, immediately. I only got PT, because I asked for it. Regular old neurologists should certainly be made aware of this important factor/need.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, Thanks for all the information. Seeing that he is a specialist, I imagine, as is the practice here in . that I would need a reference from our family doctor. I'm going to check out what is i available her in QC. Thanks again for your help. Martha
