Any Solution To Parkinson's Exhaustion?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have read through the list of drug treatments available, and found they are mostly for motor symptoms. My husband has a mild tremor in one hand, which is well controlled by medication, but his non-motor symptoms, such as constant exhaustion and inability to face any sort of mental work is definitely his greatest problem. Is there really no solution to this?

Hi Seagull, that is the hardest part of watching this disease progress. As the inability to organize and "handle" situations as they come up continues to decline, I am also seeing my wife's self confidence falling. We are doing our boxing and personal training to work on the physical stuff...and it is working. We are most grateful for that. The other thing that we keep seeing and have done somewhat is to do mental tasks such as sudoku, solitaire, brain games online if you can handle that, and learning how to share tasks that were once hers. She handled the money cause she was good at it. That is becoming more difficult and so we are finding ways to share that task and more important, how to use the "system" to get things done in a timely manner. We are on a drug called bupropion which is a drug which helps you focus and is used mainly for ADHD kids. She is on a low dose and once the first 48 hours passed, she accepted it well. Also we had blood work done and her D and B vitamins are all low. wishing you a wonderful day and best wishes as we walk this journey together.

This is where physical treatments come into play. Acupuncture, exercise, tai chi, yoga and meditation. All of these will help with phycological symptoms. Even dancing and singing help make you feel better.

Hi there #Seagull, my wife was put on Bupropein, a drug used for ADHD type of deficits. It helps the brain focus. We started this coming out of an overdose of Sinemet and it is working and along with that her sense of self is returning. She is on a low dose and she felt "funny" the first couple days after starting it, but tolerated it well and now it's part of the morning pill regimen. We only started this a month or so ago but it has been a God send for what it did. we meet with the MDS the beginning of April again so we'll find out if we stay on it or get off it down the road. God BLess and keep fighting and pushing.
You got this life - don't let PD take it away. Adjust

I was so sorry to read of your predicament. What a cruel illness this is. It must be so hard to cope with it by yourself. My husband had a sharp financial brain, and now can't even remember our telephone number. Our thoughts are with you.

since sinemet took away MOST of my physical symptoms, i am left watching my cognitive abilities fail. i am still bright enough to see how bad i am getting, which is awful. i can't deal with mail anymore, and that is a problem because i live alone. any official letter scares me to death. i can no longer write correctly....have lost grammar, punctuation, ability to find words i used often. use to enjoy arguing politics on newspaper sites, but had to quit because i no longer make sense. i wrote an e-mail to my brother yesterday that included 8e3 in it. neither of us has a clue what i was trying to say. i must write things down immediately or they are gone.....as is the notebook i used to write it down in ! also, i take buproprian as an antidepressant. it allows serotonin, and dopamine to go to other parts of the brain, as opposed to seratonin uptake inhibitors. this allows the serotonin and dopamine to stay in your brain longer. since i have taken it for years to stave off my depression , i have never heard it used as a med. for ADHD in kids.....and i have never noticed it helping me focus......just helps me not sit in a corner wanting to drop kick my head across the yard. children do react to meds. different than adults, so......... ??? thanks, lu
