Lost my sense of smell years ago------now tastes---- no loss of weight -----eat very little but love smoothies and malts. I don't eat much sugary things because I am diabetic.... and only need 1/2 a pill a day. Gained weigh since I take levodopa.......

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member Thanks Aileen. That helps as I recently had soy sauce that seemed to coincide with latest outbreak. I seem very sensitive to salt too. What next?!

FINALLY I find someone else who has lost smell and taste. Smell left me several years ago. Taste began to lesson 3-4 years ago. I do still have some ability to taste --especially sweet things. A doctor told me the tongue has most of each type of taste in a particular location and "sweet" is around the edges.....I use sugar substitutes (my husband is diabetic) and take pleasure in everything from smoothies (with flavored protein whey powder) to Tire Misu! My greatest problem: COOKING "what sounds good for dinner??" (have to remind my husband that I no longer notice the burning food odor,)

I had tongue ulcers exasperated by the constant PD chewing. I have had 3 pieces of my tongue removed. ( one the size of a dime) . The neurologist found a " dangerously low " B12 level and put me on "massive" injections. The increased levels helped the PD and the chewing. The Oral surgeon said the deficiency can cause the ulcers. Doing much better now!!!

Try L-lysine supplement. My daughter gets canker sores and she swears by it.
