My Husband Had PD With Extreme Hypotension. How Are Others That Have This Problem Coping With It?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question đź’

He takes 10 droxidopa, 3 midodrine and1 fludrocort a day to keep his pressure up but even with that if it is warm he is likely to pass out if he goes outside. He also passes out if we go out to dinner with friends and linger over the meal to chat. His normal blood pressure can drop about 60 points when he stands up.

I discovered (after fainting in my church's choir loft during a service) that if I eat salted nuts when my blood pressure is low, it brings it back up to an acceptable level and I feel better.

OMG. sounds like me...have to be very cautious. The Dr put me on a daily sodium tablet, which helped some, but not enough. B/P first thing in am might be 148/90 (still in bed) then upon arising 112/ 76. Same after a meal. He just (today) started me on a brand new med (Northera) that is supposed to stablize the B/P. We shall see what happens. I have such a great fear of falling cuz when it happens I am gone!! Totally passed out with no control. I come to very quickly (only out maybe 30, seconds but it doesn't take that long to break a hip! I hate taking another pill. but I feel that I have no choice. If my husband is with me he has been able to break the fall, but if I am alone, anything is possible. So you be careful -- don't forget LOT'S of fluids in this hot weather!

I already had low BP before PD so now it's worse. I have to stay hydrated (a challenge in hot weather, and it means I have to "go" all the time), and eat salty foods. Lots of water really does make a difference - can't wait to be thirsty because we don't notice it as much as we age.
