I have noticed an increased number of YOPD now. When I was diagnosed almost 6 years ago, there was only a few.On social media sites,it seems to occur frequently. The only reason I attribute this increase number of YOPD cases, i think it's the environment or bad genetic.Youth today are sicker than our parents generation
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, you are right number of YOPD is increasing dayby day, and i think not only environment other things like stress, anxiety, fear, food and busy lifestyle is common now then before our parents grandparents had faced compare to now
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, I have YOPD and have been struggling with asking myself why. I found a recently published article which links PD and Hepatitis B (which I had in my 20's/ no idea how I caught it). They found that people with a history of Hep B were 76% more likely to develop PD!
Here's the article:

It's recommended that,
"Clinicians caring for patients with a history of hepatitis B or C should be aware of this seeming increased risk of PD among their patients, so that if neurological symptoms present, these are detected early," lead author, Julia Pakpoor, BA, BM, Bch, Unit of Health Care Epidemiology, Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member i agree with the other post. Where i am i believe we will see a dramatic increase in pd in younger people because of pesticides. We are in a tick infected area and people are frightened and fighting it with every pesticides out there. Our local news are telling people to treat their clothes, lawns etc. Not concidering the consequence using these products as they are trying to protect themselves from lyme. Its like side effects of medication You take the medication to solve one problem gambling it wont cause another one.
Is it really environment or genetics or is science improving? Our population is living longer and is technically getting healthier. I am very scientific and a bit inquisitive. I would say it is more long the lines of we just do not know yet. Science is still working on it and we should do our best to keep promoting the awareness and contribute research as much as possible. Weather it be answering questionnaires or participating in studies. Keep an open mind as well. Many doctors that did not keep an open mind with I felt could have helped me. Open minds and forward thinking along with that curiosity is what leads to the discovery we need.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member Yes indeed I have read about this research about the link between Hepatitis and PD it's true! I guess that's the reason
