I’m at a crossroad whether to do the DBS now while eligible or wait for new drugs to be developed and approved.

Does anyone have a similar delema?

The results of DBS are tremendous. Brain surgery is invasive but very doable. When they connect the transmitter the results are immediate. The tremors are gone. Despite the minor inconvenience of surgery the results are amazing. Think of it. The tremors are gone. You can cut up your own steak.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member next month is two years since my DBS surgery… Best best best best best thing I have ever done. All of my symptoms relieved, I was able to live again on my own, I drove again after seven months, I took care of my daughter and got a dog! Before my surgery I did several clinical trials because I felt it was my responsibility to make a cure hopefully available for my daughter if needed. It is just my belief that New drugs will not be available to help me as much as the DBS did. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have, look at my picture on my pin board and good luck if you choose DDS!

I had the DBS implant done June 24 , 2012 , it has been a blessing. I was to the point of dragging myself on my arms to get around my house. My legs simply would not work. My wife was still working so no one was able to stay with me. I was on my own during the day. The implant was done and we waited one month to allow my brain to heal from the surgery . On the day that turned the unit on I was wheeled into the office set it up and I walked out of the office. It has made such a difference in my life you can't imagine . Since then I have gone from 8 pills per day to 4 pills. I am doing Tai-Chi and Rock Steady Boxing now. One thing you must do is exercise. Just keep moving , if you don't use it you will loose it. Take your medication on time every time. Watch the protein intake and sugar . Take you medication 1 hour be a meal . Give the dopamine time to reach the brain. Good Luck
