My appetite is not good. I eat less and do not keep snacks other than nuts in my home. Yet I have gained weight. I am less physical active but not much.
I have gained 40 lbs since I was diagnosed with PD. I couldn't figure out why I was, and still am gaining weight, when I am still eating the same amount of calories. Then someone mentioned to me that people with PD do gain weight and I confirmed it with my doctor. My husband always would comment if I gained any weight. He was naturely thin and thought that people were too lazy to diet. Well, I never said anything to him and became depressed.. My husband developed Leukemia in 2010 after being exposed to Agent Orange when he was in the Air Force in Viet Nam in 1964, and passed away in June 2015. I had symptoms of PD in 2009, walked with a cane and was unable to write. My PD didn't progress until October 2015. I wish I would have spoken up to my husband and told him that he hurt my feelings instead of keeping my comments to myself and becomng depressed. Because I AM NOT TOO LAZY I HAVE PD! We do gain weight it's pat of the illnes.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member I have gained. I think it is because I am not very active because of pd and bad back problems. Also, my caregiver cooks fattening meals... lots of cheese and Hamburger Helper.
I take only levodopa/carbidopa 25 mg 4 x @ day.
Yes I have gained almost 50 pounds since I was diagnosed with Parkinson's. I am totally disgusted with my weight gain. I am going try Weight Watchers. It has worked for me in the past.
