Medicare
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m 56 and started receiving disability. I think I’ll become Medicare eligible. Does anyone know that timeframe?
You’d think I’d be able to find that answer, but I gave up wading through the SSA website.

2 years after you go on Social Security Disability you will go on Medicare. I went on Social Security in 2016, and I went on Medicare this year. I was 57 when I went on Social Security.

After you are on disability for two years you will receive a Medicare card. Go to my SSI.gov then to disability to see

You will receive a book from Medicare around open enrollment period that also explains all this and will list the managed care plans and their cost and benefits

I got Medicare just a month after being approved for SSDI. There was a lot of paperwork involved, but the folks at my local SS office were very helpful.

I think I got Medicare right after disability. I am thinking it was like only 30 days after I was awarded disability.
