Of course! It is, after all, major surgery with major risks. It requires a lot of faith in your neurosurgeon. Having my head screwed into a metal cage to immobilize it during surgery was probably the worst because I remember that - vaguely - but I do remember it. My entire head was shaved during each surgery. I've gained about 35 pounds since the surgery (I'm not vomiting several times a day as I was when I took a larger dose of Sinemet). My neurostimulator is not rechargeable and will have to be replaced at some point. All things have pros and cons, but for me the pros outweigh the cons.

The total amount of time from when I first was seen was about 2 years. First I had to have all different test and doctors to see. It was done at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. Once I was approved It took about a month to set it up and The first surgery was about six hours and then stay in Hospital for one night. Then a week later I had the second surgery it took about six hours but they did not get started right away, I did come home. The first surgery I just took it easy for a few days and then it was time to go back and have the other surgery. There was some pain but not where you could not stand it. They give you pain meds to take which I did not take very many. Hope this helps you.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, thanks for that info. How long would you say the surgeries, from first one to last battery hookup takes in months. And when you got out of hospital for first surgery did youhave to stay in bed for a few days or were you ok, any pain after surgeries? I am not good with pain. Bean
