I have and I would recommend it for anyone who is a candidate My quality of life is much better
Snooks, are those requirements from your insurance company? I have no such requirements - still working and dx'd in January. However I have both Parkinson's and essential tremor. I'm scheduled to have DBS late July. Honestly, I'm looking forward to it. My right side shakes something awful, but any more than 5 sinemet a day, and my gut says Nope! I get horribly sick. And I hate taking pills! There are only motor symptoms at this point, no cognitive issues.
Don’t be afraid! The outcome is wonderful. For me, I just knew I didn’t want to live that way; so no fear. Had a fabulous party where friends and family came to cut off all my hair! Then, my hairdresser shaved the remainder off. There are other options in clinical trials. I was in a trial and it was wonderful.
Not sure if I’ve already answered; I had DBS in February 2012 at Vanderbilt University Medical in Nashville Tennessee. My tremors had become so bad (head, shoulders and hands) that it was driving me crazy. I now have some tremors when I write, carry items or try to put on mascara! Although depression and severe anxiety became pronounced about a year after surgery. Wouldn’t hesitate to do the surgery again!
Thank you Steve, that is fantastic to hear.
