Problem With Toes Curling
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question đź’

My toes curl up when I am in the OFF condition. I can go along for hours with no problems. At the beginning of the day my shoe fits fine. Then when I have an OFF spell, I notice that toe four on my left foot is getting sore. This toe goes under toe three causing a sore place. Anyone else having trouble with toe curling? I have been diagnosed with PD over 10 years. The toe problem has occurred in the last year.

Shirley: I have found that (for me it's my left foot that cramps up/toe curling. I use the heel of my right foot and plant it just below the big toe (there is a muscle there that controls the cramping; I press down slightly and slowly increase the pressure; I frequently need to concentrate on uncurling my left toe, as well....but within 5-10 seconds the foot straightens out. I then lean forward, putting all my weight on the previously curled foot/toes and hold it in that position for at least 15-30 seconds (like a cross country skier's position. This usually remedies it. but if it occurs again I just repeat the process over again. For me it happens when I first get up in the morning because when I am sleeping I'm not administering meds. All my muscles are in a sleep stage. As soon as I awake I take my meds and so it is that transition between foot sleep stage, "relaxed muscles", to muscle usage stage that this occurs. I'm also releasing that extra low/extra high sugars seems to affect this ailment, as well......but have no answers on that idea as of yet.....Hope this helps....

I too suffer from toes curling especially when the tremors increase. The only relief is to remove footwear and stand on my toes. Painful at first but perseverence seems to pay off. I also have pins and needles in the left hand that get so painful it feels like fireworks firing up from the wrist and out through each joint to the tip only time and a little help from cannabis oil seems to settle it down. My GP prescribed Amitriptyline but has not helped and also affects the Entacapone which supports the Sinemet which didn't do much on It's own.

I get pins and needles in my feet and legs regularly. But sometimes I will feel like someone is sticking a sharp, hot needle into a toe!

My daughter goes barefoot, but sometimes she tells me she keeps getting shocked. Her arms too . Does anybody feel this? She has moved 3 times and each time it’s the same. She even puts plastic panels around room to keep from getting “ shocked”.
