Hello
My question is how long did it take you to be diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease? I'm a 30 year old woman and I have seen several Neurologists that have always danced around the diagnosis of PD because of my age. Until recently when I went to the ER for a mini stroke. The Neurologist I saw in the ER knew exactly what I had after her assessment. She left to call my current Neurologist and I never got to ask more questions. I apologize for the long story, it's even longer than that. I just… read more
I am sorry you had to go through that with your doctor. I know what you mean. Just remember you are not alone. First of all God know what you are going through and He love you. You were created with a purpose and there is no expiration date tattooed to the bottom of your foot. You can live a full and happy life if you choose to do so. And of course you can be an encouragement to many others by the way you live your life. Just take a deep breath, smile and be determined to carry on no matter. You will be rewarded for your efforts. I promise. Have a blessed day today and tomorrow.
I was having tremors at night and wanted to know what it was. Went into the doctor's office. He performed a few tests like walking, squeezing his hand, and following his finger. After 15 minutes of tests he said you have PD. Do you want to take medicine now, he said, I'll see you in 6 month, so long. That was it. Did not like his bedside manner so I went to a second doctor. He performed the same tests and confirmed that I have PD. I still have him and I really like him. He tells me that he is interested in the quality of life and will administer medicine according to how I feel. He is very nice but I must take charge of my health by doing the things that will slow down the progression of PD. My diagnosis was clinical by both doctors. Hope this is helpful and I wish you the very best day possible.
It took me 5 neurologists to get dignosed. Very frustrating.
My neurologist said Parkinson’s is hard to diagnose. The usually rule other things out first. Bottom line is if the medications work, for balance and tremors (somewhat) they will probably diagnose you. I keep exercising like they said, so it maybe doesn’t improve much, but it keeps me under control.
25 years ago, the rule was to diagnose a patient with “Parkinsonism” first. Then the patient was observed for 5 years to see how the symptoms changed. Only after 5 years of that nonsense was I finally diagnosed with PD so I could start collecting disability. I went 5 years with no income. I was a self employed building contractor who couldn’t build and couldn’t collect disability because “Parkinsonism”wasn’t a diagnosis SS would consider. And I wasn’t hurt on the job so of course I couldn’t collect workmans comp either. It’s a good thing my wife stepped up her work hours to full time plus any overtime she could get.
I’m 65 years old now. So I was 40 when I first went to the Dr. My first symptoms were rigidly and falling backwards. Both not the common PD symptoms.
I hope diagnosing PD has improved by now!
