I just read the info on this site regarding side effects of using levodopa carbidopa and that it should be used with caution by those who have emphysema. Does anyone know why? I have been using it for a few months and I have emphysema. Maybe it is causing some of my issues??

Has Anyone Had Successful DBS(deep Brain Stimulation) For Truncial Dystonia (a Movement Disorder Related To PD)?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Along with the usual Parkinisms, I also get a strong cramping spasm in the abdominal area when I try to stand upright without holding on to my walker. I had the DBS surgery hoping to find some relief by finding the optimal electrical setting to disrupt the spasms. But, so far, we have not been able to find any setting that provides any relief. I would love to find someone who has had successful surgery for some guidance.

I had successful DBS surgery in October 2022. Since my diagnosis in 2021 (probably have had Parkinsons for 4+ years before that), I have worked hard to do everything in my power to keep Parkinson’s… read more

A lot, however I take those deep mind clearing breaths and march forward. Occasionally with hiking sticks. All focus on the walk and one step at a time. Good luck to all.

Does Anyone Have Abdominal Spasms So Strong That They Can Not Stand Erect And Walk Without Extreme Discomfort?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been diagnosed with a Parkinson's like disease - Multiple Systems Atrophy with Dystonia. My biggest challenge is the abdominal spasms that I have when standing or walking. They lock me in a "crunch" position as if I were in an aerobics class and in a perpetual crunch. I have to fight this continual spasm to prepare dinner at the counter or to walk from one spot to another. I am finding it debilitating. I am wondering if anyone else has this problem and has found some relief.

Thanks for you suggestion regarding a backwards stretch. It does help a little, but my spasms are constant while standing.

After seeing this picture, I'm thinking of buying a neck pillow (type you use on an airplane) for my hubby.

Has Anyone Had Or Know Of Someone That Has Had Deep Brain Stimulation
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have Tremor Predominant Parkinson's and my Dr says that I may be a good candidate for deep brain stimulation. I was just reaching out to see if anyone has had this procedure or know of someone that has. Looking for Pros and cons. I have watched videos and read a lot about it but never talked to anyone that has had this procedure. Thanks for reading and hopefully someone can give me some insight of their experience.

Deep Brain Stimulation?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone who does not have tremors try DBS to improve your quality of life.
I don't shake but body is tight and rigid. Gate of walking is shortened as well as speed of walking. I'm considering DBS but uncertain it will help with my type of PD. Would love to find someone for advice.

Hubby had rigidity, less tremors. Meds were causing terrible dyskinesias, so he had DBS 2017. He reduced meds by at least 60%. It was a godsend. But time and other medical problems have progressed so… read more
