My husband is 63 and was diagnosed 7 years ago with PD. We have been married 42 years. He was a marathon and ultra marathon runner and has kept very active (exercises every day) up until about 3 weeks ago.
First in February 2020 he went into a violent PD Psychosis - it was beyond terrifying and the specialist put him on Seroquel and another antipsychotic. She started reducing his psychosis med two weeks ago. He is now 100% normal mentally.
He has now developed what I can only call a severe… read more
Hi Janet... I can say I understand completely about what you and your husband are going through.. My husband of 46 years, 2 months, and 13 days passed away April 1, 2019 after a very long ,courageous, hard fought battle with Parkinson's. He too was an extraordinary athlete.. He also coached for 40 years... He worked out, ran, biked, swam, played golf and tennis, etc. for as long as he could. We too went to Rock Steady boxing which he enjoyed, but unfortunately his mobility was failing him rapidly and we could not continue. I did lots of physical therapy at home with him ...even at the end when he was in a wheelchair. His mental state was very positive at first, but as PD progressed he began to hallucinate, have delusions, and of course become anxious..His hallucinations were benign at first, then became disruptive. Sinemet, .. (carbidopa/levodopa ) causes that. He was put on Seroquel then Nuplazid was added later. And Xanax for anxiety. Those helped a bit as did an antidepressant.. Sunlight always put him a better, calmer mood.. So, when I could still get him in the car, there were many rides... When in the wheelchair...many, many walks and runs outside.... I am a runner....Running and pushing his wheelchair was easier that I thought !!.... I read to him everyday... And music was ALWAYS one of the best things for him...He and I loved sports and music... I am so sorry you and your husband are going through this tough journey.... Also, remember to take care of yourself... But, I know it's hard if you are doing this alone.. At some point... please get help if you can..Take care....Stay strong
LindaBaron... We were well aware of DBS, but my husband did not have dyskensia...only a resting tremor in one hand.He did not think the procedure was for him. His Parkinson's neurologists understood and respected his decision.. I did as well...

I suffer from both anxiety, depression and insomnia. Seroquel has brought me good outcomes. My doctor also has given me ativan for anxiety, I am also on an antidepresent.
Hi.. RE: Rock Steady... check out the HQ (Indianapolis) Facebook site, or YouTube site. they have posted a bunch of videos that a person can work out with online. Also, maybe the Rock Steady coach or someone in the group could organize a ZOOM Happy Hour -- not as good as everyone being in one place, but better than nothing. Most important is to keep moving. And it sounds like you need to find a different doctor. Hang in there!!!!
