Amantadine, Sleep, Severe Anxiety
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

My husband is newly diagnosed PD. From being placed in Amantadine x2 per day he has deteriorated. Severe anxiety. Can’t sleep. He has tried many anti depressants, anti anxiety and sleep prescriptions but nothing is working. He sees a therapist. Today he will see a psychiatrist.Nuero doctor claims it is not the amantadine . Help

you should add in an exercise regime. studies have shown that riding a bicycle whether 2 wheel, stationary or recumbent 3x per week increases motor function. Also try light treatment therapy. There is a study out of N ew Erland on light in the red spectrum for 20 min 2x a bday is helpful..Attached is the abstract

Amantadine is a terrible drug with bad side effects that no one tells about I ended up not knowing what I was doing or who I was!

I am So sorry to hear of the issues you are having - well, you wrote this a month ago. That should have been plenty of time to see what works for you and what doesn't. I didn't do well with Amantadine. Quit it after a few wks. It made me feel all woozy especially towards the end of my work day, driving home. I had to quit it!. Besides, it didn't seem to be making me less shaky. Hope you are much better, less of or NO more dizziness. I couldn't handle that for long. I'm not sure what an anxiety attack is like - I don't want to. Hope those have diminished/ or gone. As you've heard/ready probably many times, different meds affect everyone differently - that's probably why there are so many out there to try.

I have severe anxiety attacks and am now on 2 2 mg tablets of xanax per day. I break them in half because when I take the whole 2 mg tablets I suffer from dizziness and sometimes I fall! As long as the xanax is in my system I have no problems with the attacks. When I wake up in the morning I still have an anxiety attacks and right before I go to bed I have another one! I take 100 mg of zoloft and 380 mgs of wellbutrin! I don't know what to do anymore!

Update. Anxiety medication changed to a higher anti depressant in day and no medication at night. PD medication stopped altogether for it may be causing more anxiety, weakness and tremors. He will be reevaluated 2 weeks for stopping amanditine. But his body shakes are back strong. We are trying ‘touch point’ little gadgets that help relax with a vibration-it is helping!!! Still he is weak, needs to keep very close attention to anxiety creeping in. He is way more sense tarry than I would like him to be. The Psy MD told him to take it easy a s be kind to himself and only do what he wants. He only wants to move about a mile a day.... so till he is stronger, I guess this is what it is.
Still questioning if this is PD or a LBD, or simple burnout from a stressful 4 years?
