Has anyone had a bad reaction to eating food with a lot of MSG (monosodium glutamate)? MSG is especially high in Asian foods.
Thanks for all the answers. I believe the problem was I recently started rasagiline and it was not helping but causing random bad reactions to foods I ate that were high in tyramine and maybe msg. Since the drug slows the breakdown of neurotransmitters in general. Tyramine and glutamine are both neurotransmitters so if I eat foods high in those, the rasagiline allows the neurotransmitters to build up. Stopped the prescription today and already feel a little better.
I think if you are prone to headaches MSG and artificial sweeteners may cause problems. I have heard some say the sweeteners cause mood changes.
I think it's an individual issue. It bothers some and not others. Personally, I don't notice a problem with MSG, but I don't eat it often. What does bother me is artificial sweeteners.
I personally have never had a problem with msg. I use and will keep using it. Back when everybody thought msg caused cancer I was a proponent of using msg and still am. I believe anything in excess is bad for you.
Probably doesn't help but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Yes, I can't eat MSG on anything.
