Before You Had Parkinson - Symptoms
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I hope you all could give me some insight into the development of the disease.

Before you were diagnosed did you experience the following experiences?

-- Twitching legs or arms while sleeping.
-- Vivid dreams
-- Teeth grinding while sleeping.
-- Cramping hands while sleeping.

Could you tell me what symptoms you experienced before you were really diagnosed with Parkinson?
Thank you for sharing/

A good year at least and of course looking back I see that there were symptoms I didn't recognize before that but just that's my formal amount of time

I have clinched teeth forever.
For diagnosis ridgid left arm, tiny writing, not swing arms when walk, little finger twitch. Not stand straight. Not walk normal.

For several years I have had mild head tremors. Brain fog that has gone from mild to moderate and it's really the worst part of this. Last month leg pains and left hand tremors started. Balance and falling have been issues for about 3 years. I notice some slurring of my speech, though others don't. I was diagnosed last Tuesday. I reported these precursors to my Doctor and he shrugged them off as "aging" issues. I am 68. I have a new Dr. now and he spotted it right away. I start Sinemet next week. I hope it helps.

Vivid dreams and/or acting out dreams is a common early sign of Parkinson's.

For my husband, the first thing I noticed was that he was slowing down, a lot. His walking pace went from 3 mph to 2 to 1.5. Getting ready to go out took longer. Balancing the finances took much longer. He had a tremor when we were watching TV, but neither of us paid much attention to that. It wasn't until he started festinating and falling that we got worried and saw a neurologist. Before that he had started to hunch over while he walked and I noticed that his arms weren't swinging as usual. Those were confirmation that he had PD, in my opinion, but didn't appear until several years after the tremors started and the slowing down.
