He has been warned that this type of dementia usually leads to parkinson's. Does anyone else have this diagnosis ?
He has been having memory issues for about 9 months. He finally agreed to testing after a really bad night of tossing and turning, flailing, and (I hate to say this) but he punched me so hard in the face I had a black eye. When he woke the next morning, he didn't even remember the episode. So he was tested in November of 2021, and the diagnosis was made in December. So this is all still very new to both of us.
I have noticed some hand tremors in his right hand when he holds a fork when eating, and there is drooling at night when he sleeps. Fortunately we stay pretty active , one hour bike ride every day, usually a 30-40 minute walk as well. I dread the day when he starts having balance issues. I hate that we can't make any long range plans like vacation, or just a long weekend away, he gets so worked up that he doesn't sleep and that leads to really bad days where he can't remember anything, and doesn't think rationally.
I have taken over paying all the bills, as he forgets to pay some, and pays others two or three times because he can't remember that he already paid them.
I don't let him drive anywhere, it is just too stressful for him, his mind does not let him make good decisions( when to turn, how far to stop at a stop sign, how fast to drive)
So how long ago did your husband's symptoms begin? How are you doing ? I think it's really hard on us as caregivers, we worry all the time and never get a break
I read that was what Robin Williams had. A friend also had it a few years ago, but hs since passed away. It's relatively rare.
This is such a cruel disease. So unfair
This is another good group to join. Everyone is so helpful and kind
