Just started 25/100mg dose 2 weeks - now on BID dosing and will increase to Tid - how long does it take to notice relief usually - I’ve been more tired than usual and take a nap most afternoons - I’ve read there are some diet considerations regarding protein and iron intake - how do other members take it and work out the food issues and times - my neurologist said to try and take it at scheduled times
Also if you take a multivitamin make sure it's after or before at least 1 hour it interferes with the carbadopa
With most medications if you are told to take them twice a day, what that really means I’d every 12 hours, three times a day, every 8 hours, four times a day every 6 hours, etc. with C/L that may not be the case, because you don’t need it while you are asleep, but consider the fact that medicines work best keeping the levels even in the blood stream, so not as likely to have highs and lows. Then, factor in the fact that C/L needs to be able to work best with no other interference from protein, so you need to take it at least a half hour before a meal that includes protein, or wait a couple hours after your meal for it to work at it’s most efficient way. Just a couple of things to think about to get the best outcome from the meds.
My husband takes 2 first thing in the morning, about 45 minutes before breakfast, 2 about an hour after lunch, 2 more about 30-45 minutes before dinner and one at 9 pm. The idea is to not eat protein with the pills.
My doses are kept on this schedule: 1 - C/L 4x a day b4 meals & bedtime (945 pm). I don't eat for @ least half an hour to 1 hour after meds. I also take plain carbidopa (no levadopa) 4x a day to combat any nausea levadopa may bring. This regimen works ok, but lately having some breakthroughs either b4 or after taking meds. MDS has tried tweaking and/or changing dosage times, but so far this keeps happening. The symptoms do go away within an hour, so @ least there is relief.
I've been on it for 7 years I take 1 1/2 4 times a day it took a good month to get use to it it does control my tremors but being tired is part of pd I have sleeping problems I'm very active in my sleep
