I took it for about a year and I had a negative response to it. I fell asleep all the time. My husband wouldn't let me drive at all because of my falling asleep. I also had pitting edema in my feet and legs. I had so much swelling that it was getting hard to breathe. I was stumbling around and had several falls. I was having trouble speaking clearly. I didn't see my neurologist for 7 months except for a virtual visit. When he saw my feet he told me to stop the medicine that night, which i did. I thought I was going to die. I called his office to report what was going on with me, I left a message for him but never got a response from him. I called my pharmacist and he told me to go back on it and titrate off of it. I did and I will never take it again!

Hi. I took Pramipexole (Mirapex) for some years. I don’t remember how long it took to work though. My experience is a negative one. First, it made me gain 60 lbs., but worse than that was that I fell asleep all the time while eating or drinking, or visiting with friends. My husband had to sit and watch me eat because I would take a bite and fall asleep while the food was in my mouth, so he had to wake me and tell me to chew or swallow. This had to be so difficult for him because he couldn’t take his eyes off of me as I continued to fall asleep every few minutes. One day I was drinking coffee in my recliner and I fell asleep and woke up with coffee coming out of my nose and my cup in my lap spilled all over me. He must have walked out for a second and thats all it took. I fell asleep watching t.v. or sitting and talking to people with my husband. So it affected everything I did. My legs and feet started swelling bad too. My Neurologist went into the hospital for months and I decided to get a new Neurologist. He immediately took me off of Pramipexole and put me on the real Carbidopa/Levidopa and now am taking Rytary the extended release form of C/L. He put me on a low carb diet to rid me of the 60 lbs and I am happy to say I have lost all the weight. Thank God. I am sorry to have given you such a negative response to your message, but I wanted to let you know what can happen so you will be watchful. I wouldn’t take that med again if it was free. I would do without meds instead of taking Pramipexole. My old Neurologist knew all that was happening and kept me on it for a number of years. My other doctors on my care team put a note on MyOchsner online chart that no doctor with Ochsner could prescribe or refill it. My first Neurologist was not affiliated with Ochsner and I told him but he didn’t take me off. My new Neurologist immediately weaned me off of it. I am so grateful I asked my Cardiologist to recommend a new Neuro and he immediately gave me my new doctor’s name and I love him. He is very proactive and always available to me. Again, I am so sorry for such a negative response, but I wanted to alert you to the possibilities taking this drug. God bless you. Listen to your body please.

I take .75 mg, 3 times a day. And like your husband, I started taking it for RLS. It really made a difference In my RLS. But I did notice a difference with my PD. It took around 6 months (if my memory is correct) for me to notice in my balance and my constant movements. I have been on it about 5 years. But it did make me gain a lot of weight.
