My husband falls asleep constantly. Last year he fell asleep while driving. So many people tell me he should not be driving. I agree but don’t know what to do.
I agree. My Parkinson's husband seemed fully recovered from a stroke and insisted he was able to drive again. I insisted he be certified by a driving school first as he was getting scary even before the strokes. They did very thorough testing - on road, off road, cognitive, etc and suggested he retire from driving. They advise the state accordingly so you no longer hold a valid license. St ill took him a couple weeks to absorb and agree, but it did do the trick.
I had to tell my husband that he needed to stop driving and get my kids to tell him the same. As he is not one that likes being told things, he drove for another month with me pointing out the mistakes he was making. I had told him that if I felt his mistakes were becoming life threatening then I was going to tell him to pull over and he would have no choice but to let me drive. He finally quit but took it better when I allowed him to feel like it was his choice.
Have him take a driving test from a licensed teacher
I gave up driving voluntarily. I was a hazard, and I couldn’t live with myself if you I caused harm to someone else. Get him there thinking about the consequences.
My husband just will not agree to stop driving. He's not too bad yet, but I see it coming.
