This is one of those, “I can not believe this can happen in America.”
I have Parkinson's. The is a drug called ENTACAPONE. I order my drugs thru Express Scripts. I have been informed my prescription for Entacapone CAN NOT be filled. Express Scripts ran out and the drug is on back order. Unknown if or when they can any of this drug.
I have been on Entacapone for the past 10 years and never a problem.
Could this shortage be like the baby formulae shortage?
BobKerstetter, try not to panic. Call your doctor right away and get their help and advice because often there are drugs that are very close that can be substituted and/or your doctor will know if it is a long term problem or a short term problem. Also, if you have a local pharmacy nearby call them and ask for help and advice. We actually get better service through the tiny pharmacy here in my town than from a big chain. Also call your county services on aging and see if they have advice. Holding you close at heart.
We do have shortages of one med or another all the time.
Most people don’t know this; pharmacists also have a doctorate degree. They are usually you best source for anything drug related; including shortages and discontinued formulas.
I have Humana/Medicare and their pharmacy, CenterWell Pharmacy; and have been using it now 4 months and have no issues getting my prescriptions. My issue is the cost. I am using it to me help with my wear off time and so far it's working.
