If you have the DBS what medicine and dosage do you take
My understanding is that every person is different. The neurologist plays an important role here.
Sorry, I can’t help you much; I do believe the dosages are reduced and you will still be functioning well on a lower dose for quite awhile. A friend of mine was able to give up her walker for some time, plus her weight went up slightly. She also was able to recognize her beliefs were of doubtful origin.
Thanks. I appreciate your great insight.
There are two main kinds of DBS surgery. 1) STN DBS - the objective is to help PD motor symptoms. If successfully your tremors should be controlled and your gait will improve. And you will be able to stop meds. 2) GPI DBS - the objective is to stop dyskinesia/dystonia so that you can continue to take meds like Levodopa and Stalevo without experiencing those side-effects. For those with strong side-effects before DBS, they would more likely be getting GPI DBS done because if you get STN and end up reducing meds but can't quite go to ZERO meds then even that little amount of Levodopa or Stavelo can keep you in the Dystonia/Dyskinesia hell. Also there are some non-motor symptoms that some PWP have such as swallowing which STN DBS doesn't help much but taking those meds does help. Also thinking is more clear if still taking those meds.
I am doing good on balance...I wanted to get rid of the pills but if you still have to take meds what good is DBS surgery?
