Tell you names and singers and ball players from the 60s and 70s I can remember the past not the present
Long term wins, every time ....... what was the question ????
Scottsmom, you have explained exactly how I have been feeling for the last 3 yrs. So hard to explain the frustration to my family. I have had Parkinson’s for 13 yrs and my new “thing” is I’m having a problem forming my words. Oh well I count my blessings daily. Keeps me going!
Les, this seems to be a common problem for those with PD. Not being able to think of words to explain something. Forgetting what we just heard or saw. From what I understand some of us have difficulty receiving and processing information. Incoming information takes longer to go into the long
term memory storage area. PD can affect these memory processes, and new information coming in ( short term memory ) can be lost before it goes into long term memory storage. Our long term memories are still there from long ago, it’s the new info that gets lost before being stored. Sometimes it will come to us later, but seems impossible to remember at the time. My Psychiatrist seeing my frustration said “when this happens & you can’t think of the word or subject, to prevent frustration, anger, etc, just “let it go”. It may come after a while. When it happens see a red stop sign or the words “STOP”. It’s going to take time to learn a new behavior, but you will stop the frustration, anger, or sadness in time. I can’t change it, so I have to learn this new way of handling it.
Hi Les.
Regarding the problem of our short.......... Wait a minute, what are we talking about?
Keep on keeping on.
