Who Knew! Do Your Fingers Or Toes Clench? This May Be Dystonia And Related To PD.
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Curled, clenched toes or a painful cramped foot are telltale signs of dystonia. Dystonia is a sustained or repetitive muscle twisting, spasm or cramp that can occur at different times of day and in different stages of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Dystonia is a common early symptom of young-onset Parkinson’s, but it can appear during any stage of Parkinson’s

It makes sense Marie. Have no worries. Seeing the movement specialist next month will be helpful. My father prefers to meet with his movement specialist bc she really does a thorough exam and it gives him hope when she can make adjustments and suggestion to improve his quality of life. I hope your appointment will do the same for you.
Have a peaceful evening!

Thanks Shannan. The only time PD staging comes up is when i told my neuro office scheduling staff I wanted to see the neuro instead of the NP. I had only seen the NP for 3 yrs. They informed me only the MD could decide to see me and it was connected to my PD stage. I checked with my health insurance co and learned this is not an acceptable practice. I talked with the NP and now I have an appt with a movement disorder specialist at their office in Nov.
As you know, cancer is often stage based and it was always dis-hearteneing to hear a worsening # even though their was no doubt things we getting worse. This was one time when I did not want data and that mindset spilled over to my PD as well. I'm surprised by myself but ok with the idea. Thanks for the offer to assist and share your knowledge.

I agree with you Martin, it’s something hubs hasn’t encountered yet, but good to know if it happens. So thanks for the explanation, Marie. Also if you are curious about staging, I’ve been doing a caregiver course on the Davis Phinney website and a movement specialist gave a breakdown. She made it sound very simple and also said it’s just a measurement of that moment w the dr. Also said you can go back and forth in the stages depending on your level of exercise, med timing, other underlying conditions etc. If anyone wants a run down I’ll post what I learned. Other wise just know you are ok despite whatever the number is at that moment💜
