Why Does It Take A Celebrity To Help Us Feel Better About PD? Why Doesn't Awareness And Empathy Lead To Better Outcomes?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know many of you are used to me being almost disgustingly positive and I stall am. But, I think you know I'm also realistic and honest. When celebrities are praised for 'coming out' I wonder, why do they have to? They are human and subject to the same issues we all address without the celebrity status or finances. Have you seen more than a book or occasional interviews from celebrities' besides MJF who walk the walk and talk about the impact of PD on so many people? I'd like to see everyone… read more

Hi Chip, I wish I could argue against your point but I can't. The fact that PD was named in 1817 and C-L is still the primary drug for treatment after all of these years and after so much money committed to PD research makes me wonder why but I'm not going to stop wondering how I make make my days better. .
God bless us all on this journey and those who can improve our futures.

Big pharma will circumvent anything that looks or sounds like a cure. They have been selling the same PD drugs for decades. They're not going to help stop that income flow from millions of hurting people.

Once again you hit the nail on the head. Plus you have the ability to communicate insightful information clearly & provide knowledge that needs attention of the public, government, Big Pharma. Actually all people. People are basically ignorant concerning Parkinsons, including most doctors not in Neurology. I mean no disrespect in using the word “ignorant”, maybe
“Without Knowledge” would not be offensive.
I have to stop for now but I will continue later. What a great topic for us that have PD.

We do not need to be ignored. Celebrities get people's attention, and perhaps some will donate. Whereas otherwise, It's just us.

And all this started with a dog mayor. You have been branching out so well. You would be a good person to represent PD. Maybe ask your question of how Ling ago it was discovered yet there are only C-L drugs to help us. I know you can feel the need and could just walk right up and ask one. Maybe start with the dog mayor to break the ice. Good luck if you go
