How Did You Get Diagnosed With Parkinson’s?
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Did you do the circle test, hand writing test, tapping your fingers together test?
Did you pass any of them?

Nearly 25 years ago, I was diagnosed as having bipolar disorder.
In 2018, things started to change. The right side of my entire body completely slowed down, drastically. I started having tremors on my left side while my right side became immobile. I couldn't type . My job required typing at a fast pace so I was stressing and scared. I didn't know what was happening. My right leg started to drag, i had swallowing and breathing problems, speech and cognitive thoughts became a problem, etc. Etc.
I got a referral to meet with a neurologist. He mentioned that he thought i had Parkinsons but a follow up visit wasnt assigned. My symptoms began to aggressively take form. I was assigned to a new MD and on January 5th, 2022, he diagnosed me as having Parkinsons disease!!! A referral to the neurologist was made and in August of 2022, I was officially diagnosed for the second time....by the original neurologist who diagnosed me back in 2019!!!
He prescribed Sinemet and 3 days later, nearly all of my symptoms became better.
It has been a struggle for me to keep balanced, both mentally from my bipolar and physically, from Parkinsons disease.
However, I believe everything happens for a reason.
There's a lesson for me hear. I'm here to be an advocate to let others know that you're not alone. We are all going through so much. We are all aware of our symptoms but with support from sites like this one, we stand together. We have friends here to ask questions and to meet online which is a very special gift.
Thank you to everyone, who had enough gusto to read my book to the end! And for those who fell asleep, thanks for trying to stay awake anyway!!!
Living with Parkinsons is difficult and challenging, there's no denying it.
I'm sorry.
All I can do is be here for you.
That's why we're all on here, i believe, talking to each other online.
We are blessed in this way.
Each of us are so strong. Never lose site of this fact.
We are definitely, all Strong!
Have a Beautiful Life!!!
Always with Care,
Cinda

I was feeling off balance after my hydrocephalus surgery , before too and my surgeons office wanted me to see a neurologist, where I was diagnosed. No tests, she just started me directly on the meds.

The first test that he had me do is the handwriting test. My writing was so small that it was nearly impossible to figure out what I wrote. No matter how much I tried to force myself to write larger, I couldn't. Next, the walk in a straight line test. Didn't pass. Finger tests. My speech was slurred and I couldn't project my voice. Choking was constant and I slurred when I talked. I had equilibrium problems. Depth perception was off and the oddest of all, I started to walk backwards. I had nearly every symptom. Also, tremors and cognitive problems. The exhaustion was overwhelming!
