A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

What if all they want to eat is cookies, chips and fast foods? How do I get my dad to eat healthier? He’s at the stage where he doesn’t want any suggestions and is defiant

Yes he buys them himself, and keeps them right next to his chair so there’s no way to sneak them out. He’s gained so much weight it worries me because he has copd, and dementia from the Parkinson’s. So now he runs low on his oxygen levels and has to put on his oxygen tank.

Being quietly creative is the immediate answer - bake muffins that have finely ground zucchini or carrots; make sweet potatoes with maple syrup; make chocolate cake with beets; use braggs aminos instead of soy sauce; get low salt chips and try to restrict portion control. Is he buying the food ? If not perhaps you could forget to get something like bacon … also, letting them eat something not great once in awhile without comment is humane in terms of life’s joys….i am sorry he gives you a hard time….
