Members responding to the question about barely hanging on came together with deep empathy and honesty, sharing that emotional struggles like anxiety, depression, and grief over lost independence are a very real part of living with Parkinson's. Several members offered coping strategies including exercise, meditation, keeping a gratitude jar, humor, prayer, and leaning on this community for support. A recurring theme was that no one should face these hard days alone, and that reaching out, to a doctor, a friend, or this group, is always the right first step.

Friday isn't over yet where I am. But I have had a pretty decent day. I go into a very low energy slump most evenings starting in late afternoon. Days when I am spared the anxiety attacks, and having my body feel like it is made of stone It's a good day

Dear Tina. I wrote a reply earlier but not sure where it went so will try again. I feel this way often. I ask myself “Why me?” Why does there have to be pain Aren’t tremors and mobility issues enough”. And yes I know the worse may yet to be. It’s hard! We can’t give up! You can’t give up! Find the strength needed to get past this and think of all the positives in your life. Write them down one at a time on a piece of paper. Drop the papers in a jar and when you’re having a particular difficult day pull one of these papers out and read it. Read it more than once You will, I think feel the sad thoughts lift a little. Do another one if needed. Try on the good days to keep your jar full of good thoughts and smiles. You may need them as we all do.

PD is a dripping faucet that try's to steal your joy one drip at a time.It is most troubling that the world outside of our special club has no idea that our disease is so much more than tremors and balance issues. I am in my 10th year since being diagnosed and I am still devastated by unexpected mood changes,
heightened emotions and total personality changes. All without notice.
Besides my religious faith - humor gets me through each day. Dark thoughts don't last to long because I find something to make me smile or laugh.
Remember to become friends with yourself and make the effort to stay friends. Friends don't let friends stay depressed.
Find a reason to smile today.

Hi, Tina,
I, too, am living alone and am very blue quite frequently. But I want to remain in my home so I do my best to exercise vigorously [walking and indoor cycling). It’s hard to be cheerful but I keep hoping that one morning I will wake up and hear news that PD has been stopped in its tracks.

I hope that you will find some cheerful times. all the Besr,
Donna (childless cat woman)
