I haven’t been on in a long time. I’m sorry. It’s 3;40 in the morning and I can’t sleep. My arms and legs are so restless I can’t get them to stop. I need them to relax. I’ve taken medicine that is supposed to help, I have listened to sleep relaxation music, even a hypnosis music arrangement, I’ve listened to some wonderful spiritual calming songs, and I have walked but nothing is helping. I wanted to volunteer in the morning at a school, but at this rate I won’t get to sleep before I have to go… read more

A member with Parkinson's reached out in the middle of the night struggling with restless legs and arms, made worse by grief after losing her mother. Several members offered practical suggestions including phone games like Toy Blast to encourage dopamine production, meditation music on Spotify or YouTube, and asking a doctor about medication adjustments or a pain management specialist. A recurring theme was the deep connection between emotional stress, grief, and worsening Parkinson's symptoms, along with warm encouragement to build a personal sleep routine and bring sleep concerns to a doctor.

Denise140 is there a way you can get yourself to a doctor called a pain management specialist and/or physiotherapist? Gabbapentin helped my husband finally relax after a hideous 12 week episode. He also got expert massage at physical therapy which was a miracle. He has meditation music that lasts 12 hours with no ads. I think he got this on Spotify or YouTube. But you have to get the right one, otherwise the annoying loud ads come on throughout the evening. Hang in there.

Oh my goodness you all made me laugh. These have been great suggestions. I go to my doctor tomorrow. Sleep will be on my list.

That does sound shocking. I think I’ll take a pass on that.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, I agree with @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member about asking your doctor for suggestions, but games on my phone have helped more than anything else. My favorite is Toy Blast, but anything that has you sorting, organizing or using logic. We naturally think that our brain rests as we sleep, but it is actually more active than at any other time, sorting through our recent experiences, observations, and emotions. This activity requires the use of dopamine and other neurotransmitters, which by definition, we with Parkinson's Disease are lacking. By playing these games, we are encouraging the production of dopamine and the other neurotransmitters we need, while exercising our brain in the activity necessary for us to sleep and awake refreshed with our experiences, observations and emotions appropriately sorted out.
