The time and effort it takes us PD people to do anything is underestimated by all others, even those close to us. I feel your pain. Even this short message has taken minutes, rather than seconds to write.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, I used to write a lot. When I was 12, I started keeping a Diary until I decided that it was stupid to write to a book, an inanimate object. I now understand that one writes to oneself in a diary, but that seems just as silly. I wanted to write to someone I could trust. I decided that God was a safe possibility when I was 15. Not too much after that, I thought that if I wanted God to pay attention to what I was writing, maybe I should pay attention to what he wrote. I didn't receive the free gift of eternal life until I was 24, but I immediately formed a habit of reading my Bible and praying by writing "Letters to God." I realize now, that the restlessness I was trying to muddle through was the neurological disorder which eventually developed into Parkinson's, but I had a lot about which to talk to him. I have found that I can think things through when I write, so I wrote to God, I wrote to my parents, I wrote to my friends, but mostly, I wrote to God. When my kids were studying, or doing their chores, or playing, I could silently copy scripture so I could concentrate better, and then pray accordingly for hours. My kids could interrupt me, and I wouldn't mind because I could pick right back up where I left off. I didn't do well in school because I don't present well, but at 54, I enrolled in Ashford online university where I discovered that my talent using PowerPoint. I graduated in 2019 with honors. I would have continued, except that I was struggling with my sleep, I was having trouble finishing my assignments on time. I knew something was wrong. Of course, it was Parkinson's. Now, I'm losing my ability to write, and the computer is becoming difficult. My mind wanders all over the place when I try to pray. God is showing me such wonderful truths as never before, so I don't think my faith is lacking, but I feel so backslidden because I can't express myself to God or share what he has taught me. You might read this extremely long post and think I’m doing alright, but it has taken me hours, and more, and more, I'm not up to posting here, on Facebook, or anything. It's very depressing.
The thought that I have precisely four items of tableware to wash and dry makes me feel like I am about to do a parachute jump.
Dale -the crying thing. Sometimes I don't even realise I've been crying until it drips off my chin. Perhaps it's just "Ocular incontinence"? 😁
I'm not overwhelmed with the diagnosis as I am with not being able to do things that I was once skilled in. The list was never very long, it's frustrating to see the list shrinking.
Absolutely! Noise is especially loud or sudden noise. Sometimes I jump up in attack mode.
I also get very confused sometimes. I have to stop what I’m doing and retreat to a safe place (usually my bed).
I am much more emotional than I used to be. I’ve been know to cry during commercials.
