Susan I am not sure if a mattress such as the one I have can be purchased outside of a medical supply store. The one on my hospital bed was covered by Medicare and consists of multiple air pockets that continually massage your body to prevent pressure sores Think of a giant bubble wrap. You can set the firmness to suit your needs.. I experimented with several settings and chose the lowest and it is amazing. Since using it I haven’t had a single pressure problem and it is something like memory foam if you tend to sleep in the same position. Since I am mostly bed ridden I have found my “sweet spot “ and it allows for a perfect night’s sleep. Check with your Dr and he may be able to help you find one.Good luck!

My wife and I sleep in luxury motorized sleeping recliner chairs, along with extra pillows where desired.
