Why is your husband losing weight?

Weight loss in Parkinson's can happen for several reasons. One significant cause is dyskinesia — the involuntary movements that can occur as a side effect of Parkinson's medications. When someone experiences constant movement from dyskinesia, their body burns extra calories throughout the day and night, which can lead to unintended weight loss.

A MyParkinsonsTeam member shared: "My dyskinesia was so bad, I was moving nonstop and losing weight." Another noted, "Weight loss happens if you never stop moving 24/7."

Other factors that might contribute to weight loss include:
- Difficulty swallowing or chewing
- Loss of appetite
- Depression or anxiety
- Constipation affecting eating habits
- Changes in taste or smell

It's important to talk with your husband's doctor about the weight loss. They can help identify the specific cause and adjust his treatment plan if needed. This might include medication adjustments, nutritional support, or working with a dietitian to ensure he's getting enough calories.
