To Kathleen685 and others who responded: I am so sorry this has been your experience with visits to your neurologist. I almost shouldn't tell you of my experiences that have been so very different. My neurologist is also a movement disorder specialist, and she is also the DBS Medical Director for the Cole Center for Parkinson's and Movement Disorders, The Univ. of TN Medical Center. I do only go every 6 months; however, she has allowed me a full hour to discuss anything that has occurred during the past months and anything else that's concerning. When I mention now having issues with my memory and recall, issues with dry mouth, and issues I haven't resolved with constipation, she immediately goes into high mode of making recommendations for MY consideration, giving me the pros and cons of each, and make a decision of action. She also does the office retest of fingers, toes, hands,, my gait, etc. and updates the scoring of difficulty/outcome. She is so upbeat, lively, and just makes one feel special. She does presentations frequently, and is presenting at the upcoming 11th Annual Symposium on Parkinson's for folks in the Knoxville, Lenoir City, and other surrounding areas of Tennessee. For people who cannot go to the presentation one can preregister for online webcast viewing. I do hope this gives you an idea of what might be possible, although I'm aware that you may not be able to access this level of competence and care where you live. But, keep looking the neurologist who best fits your needs. If you have a neurologist who comes close to meeting some of these qualifications and/or characteristics, you might tell them what you need from your visits to feel like you have someone who truly cares about your issues and is willing to try to give you a little more attention and respect. 😔Good luck.

Every 6 months is a pretty common schedule for neurologist visits, especially when symptoms are stable. However, how often someone sees their neurologist can vary depending on where they are in their Parkinson's journey and how well symptoms are being managed.

Every 6 months is a pretty common schedule for neurologist visits, especially when symptoms are stable. However, how often someone sees their neurologist can vary depending on where they are in their Parkinson's journey and how well symptoms are being managed.

Here are some general guidelines on visit frequency:

- Newly diagnosed – More frequent visits are common, sometimes every 3 months, to get medications and treatment plans dialed in
- Stable symptoms – Every 6 months is typical and reasonable
- Changing or worsening symptoms – More frequent visits may be needed to adjust medications or explore new treatments It's always okay to reach out to your neurologist's office between scheduled appointments if something changes or feels off. Many practices also offer telehealth options, which can make it easier to check in without a full in-person visit.

If symptoms are progressing or new ones appear, don't hesitate to ask for an earlier appointment. Advocating for yourself is one of the most important things anyone managing Parkinson's can do!

My husband sees 3 different doctors every 6 months: his neurologist, his GP, and his dermatologist. His health is stable so this works well for him.

I don't know; but I've been told; Your care and timeliness of scheduled appointments is as good as your Insurance, and a partner backing you, from right beside you, and not support from a waiting room......Q
