Members responded to a question about taking Wegovy after a recent Parkinson's diagnosis, with most encouraging a conversation with a neurologist before starting any GLP-1 medication. Several members shared personal experiences with similar drugs like Mounjaro and Ozempic, including serious side effects such as pancreatitis, severe nausea, and weight loss complications, while one member shared a positive outcome after losing 52 pounds and improving their A1C. A recurring theme was the importance of working closely with an informed doctor, staying hydrated, and carefully weighing the risks given age and existing conditions.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, That's what I thought it was. I'm the one with Parkinson's in our home, but @BartBedwwll was prescribed Mounjaro. He lost 6 pounds, the first week after one dose and he was violently ill for over 2 weeks. I did some research because I seemed to be the only one concerned that he was as sick as he was. I discovered that in England, physicians are strongly discouraged from giving it to to patients patients whose BMI is is less than 35. Bart's BMI is 27. As I said from the beginning, Bart did not need to lose weight. He lost 6 pounds after taking just one shot. I told our Primary that if Bart lost 6 pounds week, he'd be dead within a month! I have also learned that it not only masks your hunger, so you don't feel hungry, it also masks ones ability to recognize thirst, so please, drink plenty of water during these heat wave!

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, I'm glad it's working for you. It seems to work for several of my friends. I'm afraid that there are too many medical professionals who have not studied this medicine sufficiently. This is especially true if American medical professionals. Our primary still doesn't believe that @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member was as sick as I know he was. She well might put him back on it, if she thought he would cooperate.
It sounds like you have a knowledgeable physician, praise God! They are hard to come by these days. You also seem to understand your need to drink more water when taking this type of medication. I'm not a doctor either, but I do read as many peer-reviewed articles as Ican. It is emphasized greatly in Europe, that drinking more water is paramount when taking this! European doctors are also warned to not prescribe this type of medication to anyone with a BMI less than 35 without serious counseling and a clear understanding of how dangerous it is for anyone not significantly overweight @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member's BMI is 27; a far cry from 35! She had no business giving him Mounjaro or anything remotely similar.

I’ve decided not to try it.

I took out before I was diagnosed. I felt sick all the time. My doctor said my body would adapt. I ended up with pancreatitis and elevated liver enzymes. I had to be admitted to the hospital for observation a few nights. I wouldn't go there

I've seen it advertised but don't know anymore. I hope you find more information about it and if it works let us know. Good luck!
