5 Better-Sleep Strategies for Parkinson’s, From People Who Know Read Article...

My Dr put me on 25 trazadone and 10 mg of melatonin and it works pretty good, sometimes I take a cannabis gummy that works well for sleep and it's for sleep only when I do miss sleep the night before because the trazadon works 95% of the times but misses from time to time

My Dr put me on anxiety meds I take at 6pm and I'm out by 9pm (sleeping 8 hours waking @ 5am)

I quit counting sleep, just sleep as you can. The stress of worrying about not being like "them" will do more harm than the sleep issue. I sleep half my "night" on a plain ol patio chair .

Is there anything else apart from melatonin for PD to take to sleep? I’m desperate now I get two hours if lucky and the days are just a while I’m so tired

That's wonderful that you have an allotment to keep you active — fresh air and movement are genuinely great for Parkinson's. But when sleep still won't come despite all that effort, it can feel really frustrating.

With Parkinson's, sleep problems often go beyond just needing more exercise. There are a few other angles worth exploring: Medication timing can play a big role. Some MyParkinsonsTeam members found that working with their doctor to adjust when they take their Parkinson's medications made a significant difference to their sleep.

Wind-down routine matters too. Try to:
- Avoid screens or bright lights at least an hour before bed
- Keep a consistent bedtime every night
- Try calming audio like a podcast, radio, or guided meditation
- Avoid caffeine, alcohol, or large meals in the evening

Comfort in bed is another factor. Silk or satin sheets and nightwear can make moving in bed much easier, which reduces nighttime disruptions.

Melatonin is an over-the-counter option some people find helpful for falling and staying asleep.

It's really worth raising persistent sleep issues with your neurologist, as they can look at whether your medications or Parkinson's-related sleep patterns are the root cause.
