What types exercise do you engage in? Do you feel that exercise helps improve your symptoms? How much or how often?

I also find pleasure in crafting with pallets. I feel so much better while doing it. I recently took a flag to a MDS at UPMC where I was in a2.5 year study for non motor symptoms. He told me that they have done studies that show when we are creative our symptoms decrease. So I refer to my crafting as therapy.

I ride my stationary bike daily, use the pool three times a week and I am always puttering. check out MJFox's cite on how people who putter do better. I laugh because my husband always said sit down and rest. I would say I need to move, I am just puttering. Here there was a valid method for my madness.

Besides my PD meds, I believe exercise has played a major role in controlling my symptoms. Although I was diagnosed 9 years ago, I continue to exercise by walking, Line Dancing and taking Zumba Gold (for seniors) and Chair Yoga. In the summer, I enjoy swimming. I think any exercise that you'll stick with is the best choice,
And BTW @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, you are a wealth of information regarding all aspects of PD. I look forward to reading your answers on many different topics.

When I'm not in a hospital or recovering from an illness or a fall, I go to a physical therapist sessions on Monday and Wednesday of every week.
I work out on the nustep machine, threadmill, and resistance bands. We practice gait, balance, and use poles to try and get my arms to swing again. We use the parallel bars, with various sized objects placed to practice raising my feet and stepping over them. We do active stretches, and numerous exercises, etc.
My physical therapist is specifically trained in movement disorders and senior care and does an excellent job.
I have been doing Physical therapy for almost two years and feel confident it has slowed my progression and kept me mobile.
