Hi @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member
I've dealt with my stiffness - general muscle pain - arthritis joint pain - flexibility with supplements... and have been able to eliminate all the Aleve, Motrin, and other like pain reducing prescription drugs. From age of 45 to 55 I lived off highly additive pain drugs due to major RA arthritis in all of my joints... Two different knee specialist strongly urged me to move both knee joints replaced...
In looking around to folks that have undergone joint replacement, I saw a great variety of partial relief and generally many had other issues due to surgery.... I had tried joint supplement 5-10 years prior.... but I don't think they were of the quality and amount I truly needed to get a therapeutic level useful for my body.... I remember the times where I couldn't even get out of bed due to the extreme pain all over.
So between my general physician suggested mega amounts of fish oils, which definitely helped, and then on a visit to my brother's retirement party, and a heart to heart chat about the joint supplement he took, because at the time I was having great problems getting around. That when my brother, Bill shared with me - Triple Strength Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM, Turmeric, Fish Oil, Flaxseed Oil, and now Coconut Oil for PD.... Bill was taking significantly more then what I had ever tried....
It took several months at elevated levels of these supplements, before my flexibility returned, and the typical ache & pain disappeared.... it got so, that I no longer needed 6 Advil just to barely get through a day... It really made a difference for me.... and I believe this is possible due to have a therapeutic level of these supplement in my body.
I continue to read about how much pain and suffering so many of our MPT members, and I wonder, that if they could just give some of these natural supplement a honest try - long enough and at therapeutic dosages to see the positive outcome that maybe possible... With the focus on the positive, rather then just the temporary inconvenience of trying something new. Our minds are a very powerful force.... Alan

They really aren't that expensive, when you consider how much is usually spent on pain medication and doctor visits.... I use a mail order company named "Puritan's Pride" ( www.puritan.com ) for past +10 years with very positive results & excellent quality. I find that I get significant better pricing, when buying larger quantities then at discount retailer and health food store.
I take supplement 3x per day, and my Parkinson's meds now 4x per day.... So many - may complain that having to stop for a moment 3 or 4 times a day is a hassle.... But to me, being able to move & flex my body pain free, get out of bed without overall stiffness... is a very small price to pay for a better quality of life.
Hi Lori, I don't know about muscle relaxers. About 80 percent of the worlds population are deficient in Magnesium which is responsible for over 300 processes in the body. So taking Magnesium or Potasiem is no problem to supplement with.. They both will act as a muscle relaxer.

Heather, try magnesium and potassium can't hurt, since 80% are deficient with magnesium anyway. Potassium is sold in 98 mg by law, try one or two daily, and see what happens, Magnesium was sold primarily with calcium and used to be recommended 2;1 more calcium to magnesium, today the recommendation calls for closer to 1:1. 800 mgs of magnesium a day is good. Much of the medication out there washes the Magnesium from your system and creates a problem. Check the fine print on meds you use. you might even want to do 1200 mgs of Magnesium. Heather these are very cheap cures to your problem check them out.
That's something I was did not know. I take a prescribed Potassium and an OTC Magnesium daily.
