A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

My husband has not started taking the selegiline tab and is wondering if anyone has had experience taking it. Dr said it should help with moving as he often has freezing and sticking to the floor problem, Any input is much appreciated. Thanks all!

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member when his foot or feet freeze to the floor try tapping his toes with a cane or you put your foot in front of his side on touching his foot his foot will send the message to his brain that in will in return send the message to his foot causing him to step over or step forward, give it a try let me know if it works for him k

Thank @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member as I believe that is what the neurologist said, but primary care said it was for dementia . My husband seems to have a lot of dreams and puts himself in them as he tells me about the dream. He also takes the generic of Exelon along with the carb/levo. I am wondering if any of this is side-effects of the drugs.

My husband used it for years-- had to stop it due to conflict with a pain medication but he never had freezing episodes while he took it.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member. I researched this SELEGILINE...I even spoke to my Movement Disorder Specialist. She does not like Selegiline.

Yes, there are a lot of new treatments and new medicines being made ready to launch. One of the most available now is to decrease your Levo-Dopa and add a drug called Selegiline. If you have been taking Sinemet (aka Levo-Dopa) for several years, it will reach a point where it stops working for you. Maybe that is already happening?
If I were you I would make an appointment with my Neurologist or Movement Disorder Specialist and ask them if you are a good candidate for Selegiline.

Selegiline helps by prolonging your "on" cycle and keeps the Levo-Dopa from wearing off between doses. It is called monoamine oxidase type B (MAO-B) inhibitors.. It works by increasing the amount of dopamine (a natural substance that is needed to control movement) in the brain.

This medicine is taken orally as a disintegrating tablet and dissolves in your mouth. Talk to your doctor and see what he/she thinks about this change for you.. Additionally, have you considered DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation)? There are a lot of Parkinson's patients who either have had it done already or are considering it. You may be a candidate for it should you opt for it, Keep me posted. Blessings. Sterling
