It is three years since diagnosis. I have tremor in right hand, tiredness and micrographia. I am not taking any meds. Holding off due to concerns about side effects. I want to hold off as long as possible but want to know if there's a point where starting would no longer have any benefit.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member Hi,
There is a majority view among doctor's these days to start the levo treatment sooner than later. There are two main benefits. Firstly it allows you to do more exercise for longer time. Exercise is the biggest factor which slows down the progression of the disease. Secondly it allows you to afford a quality of life by making you feel normal. Finally it has been proved to be not harmful for dopaminergic neurons. So if u think your movement and quality of life is decreased, I would definitely suggest taking levodopa treatment now than later.
I would hold off as long as possible. Some of the medication side effects are terrible.
Find a PD specialist close to you. I believe starting on meds asap is a benefit.
I tend to agree with incognito above. I think the sooner the treatment after the diagnosiis is made the better the outcome.
Thank you, LuWeege. Any side effects?
