I had the DBS surgeries done last June, and I feel like a kid again!! I have to make myself slow down, not just "jump ad run" the mind is willing but the body is weak. I went from using the 8mmg Neupro patch and fifteen pills a day, I am now pretty well set at 2.50 on each electrode, and only 4 pills a day.
I don't understand why the doctors push DBS because once you have had it done there is no going back. I have had it done twice and neither worked. I have since have had a duo dopa tube put in and I am at least 60% better than I was I am at advanced Parkie stage and still live on my own, do my own gardening, housework etc etc. I am sure that Duo Dopa is available in America. If it is in my honest opinion I would go for the Duo Dopa. It is easy to take out a tube in your tummy than a DBS out of your brain
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member. Hi bean. Good question bean...but so very subjective. I think there are many different reasons as to why some of us have DBS and some do not. As for myself, I'm hoping I will never reach such dire straits that I might be forced to have it done. Others may be disqualified by their doctors as not being good candidates for DBS. While others may wish to recoup some semblance of quality back in their lives. I'm not there yet but I have seen those who are quite miserable...noboby wants to be miserable.
