A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question đź’

I started having very small shaking in my right hand. I let it go for sometime as it was off and on. It seems to have gotten worse but still only off and on.Is that how it usually starts? Some of my friends just had balance problems. Is there a test for it? My husband doesn't think that's what it is but my Doctor says it is and it's very mild. Any suggestions?

That is how it started for my husband. It would happen sometimes when he was sitting or laying down. There are other things that could be causing your tremors though. Definitely see a neurologist.

Early on set of P D you might just have a small tremor. The meds will help this. Rigity is also an early on symptom. If you are able the best thing to do is join an exercise class. The balance issue comes along and may or may not affect you at first. It seems to affect me. I find that the gastro intestinal problem is the worst thing to deal with for me. I have never heard of a movement specialist I do know that in Canada there are many programs for patients with movement problems and physio therapy is used.

That's how it started for my husband. He thought it was a pinched nerve or carpal tunnel at first. I would also recommend that you go to a neurologist who is a movement disorder specialist. One thing that they look for is a tremor that comes on when you are at rest. My husband's would happen when he was relaxing in his recliner. Tremors can be brought on by many things though. Parkinson's is determined when other things are ruled out. Even the specialists have a hard time diagnosing it.

There is no blood test, just observational tests by a qualified movement disorders neurologist. Definitely see one.
