The pain is at the base of my head in the back of my neck
I find neck exercises help T urn your hear and face left then slowly right then repeat 2 or 3 times. Look forward then up at the sky then down to the floor 2 or 3 times. repeat this as often as necessary during the day
#1. Be sure to rule out serious problems through analysis of symptoms.
#2. Be your own advocate. WebMD and Mayo Clinic, I believe, have good interfaces for listing symptoms and determining likely diagnosis from your information.
#3. Involve your therapeutic team - one will see what another might not.
My story: I got physical therapy, massage and posture education (primarily for lumbar spinal pain) which worked fine, but then began to have neck pain radiating and tingling through shoulders to hands. Psychiatrist said the symptoms sounded like spinal stenosis, neurologist referred me to my DBS neurosurgeon, who ordered imaging and confirmed stenosis and spondylosis. Had Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion 18 months ago. Doing the postural education and physical therapy for lumbar pain again. Quality of life is much better. Diet and Exercise, cognitive behavioral psychology (Learned Optimism, Martin Seligman), (Meditation as Medicine is another book that's useful) and attitude adjustment from whatever ... to whatever it takes, all play a part. Not to mention a caring caregiver.
Yes, always. Some things that have helped me
1. Deep tissue messages, unfortunately not covered by insurance and can be pricy
2. A tems unit, which was covered by insurance,
3. Not as helpful as the first two, but better than nothing a heated neck and back massager. I gave a relatively inexpensive one. I tried one the more expensive heated chair messages. I think I might get one of those
i always have neck and shoulder pain
Thank you for your comments as my neck and shoulder pain seems to be intensifying
