@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member : Yes, there is a news release about a bogus batch of Botox (!) floating around. Historically, it has been considered an effective treatment for many people with cervical dystonia, as you probably know. If you work with a clinician who gets his or her Botox directly from the manufacturer and is a high-volume clinical user, the 'bogus batch' issue is probably less of a problem. Has it EVER been helpful in the past for your cervical dystonia @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member?
There is individual variability among people and clinical conditions in how long Botox lasts with muscle-based treatments. With repeat treatments in muscles, it may appear to increase effectiveness with repeat treatments in that it somewhat decreases muscle strength long-term by introducing fatty infiltrates into the muscle, substituting fat for the functional parts of the 'dead' parts of the muscle it appears to destroy. This information comes from animal (not human) studies, because it's difficult to study how Botox affects the muscle over time in humans.
Most neuroscientists think that Botox works BOTH by causing muscle paralysis and by causing analgesia (pain reduction) near the injecton site and also in the central nervous system, through alteration of the central nervous system pain processing chemical sequence.
Also, most people develop an immune response to Botox at some point so it can becomes less effective or ineffective over time, and about 1-2% of people are biologically wired so that never respond to Botox at all, In England (and soon in the US), they are working on testing and approval of a new type of Botox in which the protein in the toxin is removed. That's what causes the immune response. So, protein removal also removes the immune response that causes decreased effectiveness over time with current formulations.
I have and it is very helpful .. I am doing again August 3 will take before and after pics
