My mom heard an interview with John Pepper who claims he can reverse Parkinsons. I am immediately sceptical of anyone making this kind of claim. What I can find on his program seems to focus on walking. Has anyone bought his book or tried his program?
REVERSE PARKINSON'S DISEASE by John Peppers was the first book I read after being diagnosed in 2013. He attributes his slow progression/reversal of symptoms to his med Eldepryl (Selegiline) -- an MAO-B inhibitor. (Azilect is a newer MAO-B inhibitor) AND EXERCISE. It affirmed what my movement disorder doctor had already told me... Exercise 60" a day 6-7 days/week. Peppers experience was encouraging and helpful, but the book was a bit difficult to read and sometimes repetitive.
I recently completed Nan Little's book: IF I CAN CLIMB MT. KILIMANJARO, WHY CAN'T I BRUSH MY TEETH: COURAGE, TENACITY AND LOVE MEET PARKINSON'S. This too emphasizes exercise -- specifically Dr. Jay Alberts "Peddling for Parkinsons" program of forced exercise with bicycling. Delightful read. I haven't acquired equipment yet to implement the exercise but have used a metronome on my iphone to pace my walking steps 25-30% faster than my normal pace and I notice improvement in gait and non-motor symptoms for several days after... Exercise is key to my best quality of life...
Between meds, exercise and low stress (no longer working) I feel I have reversed symptoms or at least kept them from progressing!
I totally agree with your comments regarding exercise.. Keep moving forward and lets see if we can slow this disease down to slow crawl with out all the side affects we get with the medications.. good luck rick
I found out about John Pepper via a book by Norman Doidge. Norman's book "The Brain's way of Healing" devotes a good amount of space to Pepper. Very interesting. John's recipe is tied to exercising - a lot of exercise. Try the book - it is quite controversial. I enjoyed it and it is the main reason I go to the gym 3 days a week. I purchased John's book on Amazon.
