Sinemet And Protein: Does Eating Protein Close To Taking Sinemet Reduce The Efficacy Of The Medication?

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've been told not to eat protein sooner than 45 minutes before taking Sinemet or 2 hours after taking it. I was reading the answers to
other questions on this site and some people seem not to have noticed any difference. I hope so because it's really difficult if you're
taking several doses during the day and trying to fit in 3 meals as well.

I take cardivelopa three times a day. I'm retired and my schedule changes from day to day. In the mornings I sat my alarm clock 45 min. before I plan on eating. Take the medication at a given time and added eight hours plus or minus one hour which puts me somewhere between three and five o'clock in the afternoon and take the medication 45 min. before I plan to eat. At bedtime I stopped eating two hours before going to bed and then take my medications at bed time. I take my medications roughly 8 hours apart + or - 2 hours.

Definitely!! Big difference if you eat protein with levodopa. I usually wait 1 hour after I take my meds to eat and don't eat protein 1 hr before. Careful if u eat red meats

My doctor tells me that proteins are absorbed into our system at the exact place in the small intestine as my Meds are. and once they are absorbed they block the Mede from being absorbed into ous systems. My personal advice is be very careful when you eat proteins

30 minutes prior sounds doable. Thanks for the reply.
