Hi All
My Dad has PD (diagnosed about 5/6 years) and I have noticed a marked decline in his attitude to people; he used to be so tolerant of people from any walk of life but lately he seems to have got 'blinkers' on and if someone says something that does not conform to his way of thinking then he is argumentative. He used to be very calm and the pacify in an argument finding a common ground for all but now he is the one starting a heated discussion. Don't get me wrong he has not used force or… read more
Hi Pixi, i had the chance to speak to Dad's PD nurse and she said that this is not normally a trait of Parkinsons and maybe just that Dad is moving on in age and getting a lot more intolerant to people and situations. Dads PD nurse said dementia in Parkinsons is noticeable with forgetfulness being one of the first signs
Due to Dad's shakes he is not good making tea but when it is just me and him I get him to come and help me so that he is not just sitting there on his own. I also try and make Dad walk a bit more when he is with me as I think this is good for his stiff joints whereas my Mum and Sister seem to mollycoddle Dad more than me and fetch and carry for him.
In the Dr's off it's a simple test. Drawing things, asked to remember words after telling a story or using different words. Then they will ask him if he remembers the five words. Drawing a clock to tell the time when asked to show the time requested and a few more that I can't remember. He is going to have another Cognitive Evaluation to determine just exactly what the Dr. will be working with him to help her diagnose him. This is a Movement Specialist Dr. He had one about 5 years ago and did not qualify for the DBS surgery because of his memory then. Another book. Hope this helps. Hugs.
Dad sometimes has vivid dreams although i do not know what about. He is okay speaking for himself but he is a lot quieter than he used to be and does not get involved in a group conversation, he is okay on a 1 - 1 basis.
This sounds very much like Dad. His movement is very slow and he stumbles. He makes decisions but not as quickly as he used to. If you say we are going out in the morning, then he will be up and ready but if you decide on the day then it takes him a fair while to get ready and motivated. Thank you for this insight I will have a word with Mum to see if she can ask the Parkinson's nurse when they see her next.
