Help For Those Whose Of Is Effecting Their Voice.
A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

Those whom are finding the level of tone in their voices is getting worse.
There is speech therapy out there to help with this issue but another way to help yourself with this is singing. So when you feel you can walk around singing maybe when you are home alone so no one else is disturbed but this really can help as it exercises the voice box which helps enhance the volume.

i agree with everything that you say as my speech goes completely and i cant talk atol but i can sing which I find to be rather amazing , i also go for speech therapy and i can do all the volume but my voice still goes daily from about 10am until 9pm and i find this really annoying and at times embbarasing as when i meet anyone i cant talk to them and when my tele rings i dont even bother to answer it .

I have just finished my first week of the voice therapy program called LSVT LOUD - with a speech therapist. It basically involves re-learning to speak at a normal volume that people can hear by speaking very LOUD in the training and in the homework that goes with it. It starts with saying/singing "ah"s and going from a low ah to a higher ah and the reverse. Then reading 10 short sentences you might say very day or a lot. Then reading words. Soon you get into phrases and sentences and finally into reading. And conversation. All thinking LOUD. The therapist has a computer-based monitoring system that compares how I am doing.
It is tiring and sometimes difficult, but already in the 4 days (an hour a day) I have gone, I can see a difference. The program is 4 days a week for one hour for 4 weeks - and you must commit to NOT missing any - and doing practice homework. So, it is hard work. But to keep my voice - more like "get it back" - it is worth it.

My doctor had me go through the LSVT. Loud Speach Therapy program. It was a big help. You can purchase a DVD on line: LSVT LOUD Homework Helper

I find this really interezting. I have always had a strong voice with clear diction but since PD my voice is soft and husky when tired. Just a short session in my workshop is all it takes and yes I do sing when alone.

My voice has always been soft. But PD has made it softer. I go to Communication Recovery Group every Monday. The first hour is with Parkinson’s patients. Mostly men. Our Motto is SLOP Slow, Loud, Open, Pause. My husband can’t hear me, no matter how loud I talk! After saying it 3 times, I send him a text! Sad.😌
