Hi Steve, If you do not have social security disability, be aware that it can be a long process. My daughter now has this, but it took two and a half years.and she was turned down numerous times. It is worth fighting for, so don't give up! Getting the help of a disability lawyer is a great help. The lawyer does not get paid unless you actually qualify; I am sure we would have given up without the help our lawyer provided. As Irene already told you, the place to start is at the website SSA.gov, and then continue to follow all of the steps until you qualify. Good luck!

Hi, Steve ... I just read your question. Do not know if you have found the help/answers you are looking for. I live in Texas so some of this information may be helpful and some not.
If you are looking for social security disability, you have to go to ssa.gov ... if you want to read literature on the disability/benefits application process, go to dol.gov ... that is the dept of labor site.
If you have Medicare A, B and D, and need help with paying part B premium, you can get help from your state's health and human resources dept. Depending on your monthly income, they can pay for one or all of these ... premium, co-insurance, and deductibles.
Depending on your monthly income, you may qualify for "Extra Help" from Medicare to help pay for your part D premium and prescription co-pays.
Each state should have a SHIP (state health insurance counseling and assistance program) that will help you with filling out forms, question you may have and guiding you through the process. It is free of charge.
